The 2021 federal census has arrived.
Statistics Canada has sent out census cards to every household, with most people getting their cards this week.
Inside, you will find a code to enter at Census to complete the required survey.
If you prefer to complete the census on paper you need to call 1-877-885-2021, enter the code in the packet and follow the instructions.
The census questions only take a few minutes to complete and have to do with the age and makeup of your household.
Ontario Regional Director Nancy Guarino says the information collected it vital in local planning.
“So when you think about planning daycare’s, schools, hospitals, public transportation, even emergency services. It’s census data that will give you that community level information.”
Guarino notes this is not the first time they’ve used the internet to collect data.
“This is the first census where every single Canadian will have that option. That’s really what we are counting on, knowing that we are conducting this census in a pandemic, and that is absolutely contactless.”
Guarino says there will be follow up done by phone and at last resort door-to-door safely at a later date if you don’t complete the survey by the Tuesday May 11 deadline.
Completing the questionnaire is required by law and all answers are confidential.
