A sobering report on long-term care during the pandemic says the province didn’t learn its lesson from the 2003 SARS epidemic.
The Long-Term Care COVID-19 Commission released its final report Friday night, calling for more investments into staffing, more care for residents, and improved working conditions.
It says the long-term care system has been underfunded for years, and claims the province didn’t have a plan to protect residents from the pandemic.
The report adds overcrowding also lead to more deaths and COVID-19 infections. It urges the province to make widespread changes to protect residents from any future epidemics or pandemics.
Speaking ahead of the report’s release on Friday, Premier Doug Ford said he wouldn’t try to place the blame on previous governments.
