The Prime Minister is troubled by people gathering recently in large groups to protest COVID-19 health restrictions.
Justin Trudeau points out everyone has the right to protest, but it has to be done peacefully and safely.
“The irony here is that by gathering people are putting each other at risk, spreading further cases of COVID-19 and extending the time in which we will have to be faced with restrictions,” said Trudeau.
Not only is it happening across the country, but two people were arrested in Thunder Bay this week for breaking provincial Stay at Home order.
Organizers of the event crossed into Ontario from the Manitoba boundary check point.
There’s also collaboration between the Prime Minister and Canada’s premiers.
Trudeau noted today a request from Ontario’s Doug Ford, who asked for a temporary suspension of flights from international students.
“Because at this time Ontario is the only province requesting this, we are happy to work more narrowly with them. We are reaching out to their officials today to formalize that request. Again, I want to be clear, this is not the time to travel,” stressed the Prime Minister.
He also pointed out for anyone entering Canada, there are quarantine rules to follow and severe consequences for those who break those rules.
