Nova Scotia’s premier says he couldn’t impose restrictions on residents and allow the Women’s World Hockey Championships to take place at the same time.
Iain Rankin is responding to a decision to cancel the international tournament set to take place in Halifax and Truro starting May 6.
“We have stricter border measures in place now. So I couldn’t conceivably ask Nova Scotians to restrict more of their lives and make an exception to have people fly into Nova Scotia from other countries.”
Team Canada forward Jill Saulnier was critical of the decision because of the strict safety protocols players had to follow.
She says the team was completely isolated and had to go through multiple tests per day.
Saulnier says the decision tore away the hopes and dreams of young female players.
