The Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre is hitting the pause button all non-urgent surgeries and procedures.
This follows a provincial directive issued last week to help ease the burden on an overwhelmed health care system.
Emergency procedures will continue at this time.
Health Centre President and CEO Heather Lee says the decision was made to help create and ensure enough beds are available to those who need them.
Local clinicians have reviewed all booked non-emergency appointments and anyone who is affected will be contacted by a surgical booking team member.
Due to the increase in COVID-19 cases in our region, the hospital is reminding those looking for testing to contact the Assessment Centre at 737-5880 to book an appointment.
Officials stress the Centre is receiving a high volume of calls so the public is asked to leave their name and phone number so staff can call individuals back to book appointments.
