Find some comfortable shoes and start stretching because the annual IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s is here.
Local residents are encouraged to register and start collecting pledges.
All money raised goes to dementia support programs in the Kenora-Rainy River Districts.
Executive Director Rossana Tomashowski says this will be a virtual event.
“We’re asking everyone to walk 10,000 steps in honour of each person living with dementia within our communities. There’s a lot of people that live with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease and we fundraise such as the walk.”
Tomashowski says your support will, “Provide them (clients) with our ever popular Music project. We do Yoga on Monday’s and there’s also another class that we might be doing and we need money for that.”
She is encouraging people to get creative and have some fun to support the walk.
“You can climb the stairs. Hop, skip, jump. Do yoga, dance, walk around the house or around the block. Do a Zoom session. Exercise or walk with your family/friends because you are able to go outside and walk.”
Tomashowski notes this is just not an important fundraiser stating it also creates a lot of awareness and outreach to reduce the stigma.
She adds, “Talk to one of our Client Services Coordinators who can help a person living well with dementia including their care partners and if people need any support, they can contact us to talk to our crisis coordinators who are trained.”
She says their staff will provide you with intake and outreach services.
The local effort is part of a national campaign.
To register or for more information go to Alzheimer Society or call 807-468-1516.
