Inspector Karl Duewel has been named the Sioux Lookout OPP’s new Detachment Commander.
Duewel started his policing career as a Cadet in Prince Edward County in 2001 and was posted to Sioux Lookout in 2002 for his first placement as a Provincial Constable.
From there, he moved through the Sioux Lookout Crime Unit to the Napanee Crime Unit in the East Region.
After going through various roles, Inspector Duewel returned to the Sioux Lookout Detachment as a Staff Sergeant in 2018 where he took on the role of Operations Manager overseeing operations in Sioux Lookout, Pickle Lake, Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug First Nation, Wapekeka First Nation, and Weagamow Lake First Nation.
In 2014, he received the Regional Commander’s Commendation for Policing Excellence for his dedication to criminal investigations in North West Region.
Most recently, Inspector Duewel has been the Acting Detective Inspector for the Criminal investigations Branch and Acting Commander for the Sioux Lookout Detachment since 2020.
Inspector Duewel takes over the role from Inspector Dan Davidson, who officially retired in February.
