The provincial government wants to close our borders to countries that are considered hotspots for COVID-19.
House leader Paul Calandra says they need the help of the federal government to do that.
“We want to work with the federal government to ensure our borders are secure,” states Calandra.
“There Variants of Concern, these international Variants of Concerns are causing a dramatic impact on our ability to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Calandra says they need the federal government to act now.
“It not just about those who come here, it’s about Canadians exporting to other countries. So I plead with the prime minister, work with us to secure our international borders so that we can put all the necessary resources that we need into ensuring the people of the province of Ontario and the people of Canada are safe.”
Conservative MPPs says in the past two weeks alone there were 17 flights from India that had positive cases of COVID-19 and that could represent thousands of possible exposures.
