Area residents are invited to a full day virtual conference that will focus on exploring Ignace and the possibilities of hosting a nuclear waste repository.
The Township of Ignace, Ignace Community Nuclear Liaison Committee and the Nuclear Waste Management Organization are holding the ‘Exploring Our Possibilities’ Symposium tomorrow, Wednesday April 21.
There is a lineup of local presentations including a panel discussion from youth, seniors, indigenous residents, the Ignace Area Business Association, NWMO employees and Township employees.
In the afternoon there will be presentations from the Community Nuclear Safety Commission, who is in charge of making decisions on licensing nuclear related activities.
Another presenter is Dr. Jason Donev, who will speak on Nuclear Tourism and the opportunities in a host community of a deep geological repository.
William Leiss will speak on the community impacts of hosting a repository and Allan Webster of the NWMO will speak to the ongoing community studies.
