After being blessed with some beautiful weather on Saturday, I decided to take action on the litter that could be found all along Highway 594. It’s the road I take to get to and from work everyday, and it finally got to the point where I couldn’t stand to look at the garbage anymore!
Determined to get it done, I put on my bright orange shirt and took to the ditch with garbage bag in hand. Truthfully, I was shocked to find as many beer cans as I did. Not only are people blatantly disrespecting the place in which we live, it seems like there are plenty of people who are comfortable drinking and driving as well. It was disappointing, to say the least.
After about an hour, I had one whole and full garbage bag of beer cans, papers, coffee cups, plastic lids, and even some face-masks as well!
And just to be clear, I’m not writing this to bring attention to a ‘good deed’, but to bring attention to the things that other people are NOT doing. It really isn’t that difficult to wait until you get home, aside from a little inconvenience. Why spend more time dumping garbage in the woods when it takes a few minutes of your day to take it to the dump?
It’s lazy, and it’s disrespectful.
While I won’t be submitting my photo for the current Clean Here Like You Mean It contest, I highly encourage others to do so! Your photo submission will get you entered into a draw for one of three $100 gift cards to a local business of your choice.
Sioux Lookout and Hudson also has a similar contest called Take Pride Community Wide, with a $500 gift card to Fresh Market Foods to be won.
For the sake of our beauty in Sunset Country, please don’t litter!
