Under new provincial restrictions issued by the government, police now have the authority to conduct random checks for individuals breaking the stay-at-home order.
Several forces have stated they will not conduct enforcement checks and if necessary will inform people of the new restrictions.
The Dryden Police Service has followed suit and issued the following statement:
Emergency Order Update:
The Dryden Police Service has not yet received the new legislation pertaining to new police authorities under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act.
We will keep you updated as information becomes available regarding police response and the new measures.
As a service we will continue to engage, explain, educate and enforce in a fair and unbiased manner. We will not be randomly stopping people. We will continue to police with the same common sense approach we have used since the beginning of the pandemic.
The citizens of the City of Dryden have taken pandemic restrictions seriously and we appreciate your willingness to work together to stop the spread of COVID.
We will continue to work closely with the Northwestern Health unit and The City of Dryden to support our community.
More information will be released as soon as possible.
Thank you for your support.
