This spring, Ontario’s largest utilities are urging residents to contact Ontario One Call to have their underground utilities located before digging or starting any outdoor project.
Alex Stewart is with Hydro One and says the free service is available 24/7 and can prevent potential power outages, potential interference with hazardous electrical infrastructure, personal injury or even loss of life.
Stewart says with more at home due to the pandemic and spring here, they are reminding customers and residents to consider underground electrical equipment.
“A recent TD Bank report actually indicated that more than one-third of Canadians surveyed have completed, or are planning to complete home renovations as they spend more time at home during the pandemic.”
Requesting a locate before you dig is the law and despite the legal requirement to identify underground infrastructure before digging, there were still 4,566 reported damages last year in Ontario.
To request a check visit www.ontarioonecall.ca or call 1-800-400-2255.
Stewart notes it’s important to establish a work plan to ensure safety hazards are identified.
He adds Hydro One got involved in this campaign because safety is at the core of everything they do.
