The Northwestern Health Unit has launched a stand-by list for when they have no-shows or extra COVID-19 vaccines at the end of their clinics.
“Linked off our booking web page, we now have a stand by survey and webpage to explain who is eligible and how to sign up,” said Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kit Young Hoon.
Young Hoon explains this is to ensure the health unit uses every dose of the vaccine they have available, noting each vaccine holds 10 to 11 doses and once a bottle has been opened, the vaccine must be used as it cannot be re-sealed or stored.
“The stand-by list includes those who are currently eligible to be vaccinated, as well as people in future priority groups. When the health unit calls people to see if they can come to a clinic on short notice for a vaccine, we start by calling people on the current priority groups first.”
The health unit says other requirements for residents who wish to sign up for the stand-by list include:
- You have registered for the vaccine either through the provincial booking system or the NWHU online registration survey (even if you don’t get have an appointment booked)
- You have not yet received their first dose of the vaccine
- You have said that they want to be called on short notice in case vaccine is available
- You can make it to a local vaccine clinic within 30 minutes of a phone call
If you’d like to sign up, you can fill out the health unit’s stand-by survey.
