The leader of the NDP is critical of the Premier’s decision to lockdown the entire province.
Andrea Horwath calls the month long shutdown, too little, too late.
She says experts warned in February about the variants of concern, the speed at which they spread and the overwhelming of our hospitals and health care system.
Horwath says Premier Doug Ford said at that time that “things are looking rosy.”
“People are frustrated. They are worried about the future. Their having a hard time hanging on. Small businesses continue to close. Because the government hasn’t been there to support them,” says Horwath.
She adds the shutdown falls short on details on how the government will support those impacted.
Horwath notes they didn’t hear anything about paid time off for vaccinations, nothing about extra financial supports for reeling businesses, and no cap on class sizes or other measures to keep our schools safe.
Horwath calls the lockdown a failed approach that will only fail again.
Liberal leader Steven Del Duca feels the measure doesn’t go far enough.
