The Northwestern Health Unit is stressing to stay within your household to celebrate the Easter long weekend.
“Easter will be different this year as we must not gather with others, but we can still stay socially connected to one another even if we stay physically distant,” said Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kit Young Hoon. “Examples of safe activities include virtual dinner parties, virtual egg hunts or physically distant drop off of gifts.”
There have been two confirmed COVID-19 UK variants in the Dryden area this week and Dr. Young Hoon warns that gatherings over the long weekend could lead to dire outcomes for the community.
“The transmission of COVID-19 including variants of concern is a risk in our area, residents should keep within their immediate households for any Easter gatherings and celebrations to protect themselves and others, regardless of vaccination status.”
Young Hoon goes on the say: “Those who plan to gather with people outside of their immediate household should make informed choices and choose lower risk activities and settings. You must follow the (province’s) gathering size limits and we encourage you to remain outdoors, rather than indoors, to allow the greatest physical distance possible.”
The health unit adds no matter how you choose to celebrate, show kindness and respect to others by keeping a physical distance, wearing a face mask, staying home when you are sick and getting tested if you have even one symptom of COVID-19.
