The federal government is spending $770,000 to retain Economic Development positions in Dryden, Machin and Obashkaandagaang First Nation for another three years.
The money comes from FedNor.
Parliamentary Secretary Terry Sheehan says they made a similar investment three years ago to help Dryden hire Tyler Peacock.
“Since 2018, the Cities EDO oversaw the development of some key economic planning activities including a five year Strategic Plan, a Modernized Improvement Plan and an important Branding strategy.”
He adds, “The EDO was also able to advance some major findings from these reports while supporting 29 business start-up’s and several industrial and multi-residential start-up’s.”
Sheehan says, “The community has seen such great benefits from this position that they will work to fund it internally as a permanent job.”
He notes this will deliver on-going results for the community.
For Machin, Sheehan says, “Their EDO will work to implement priority projects for the communities 5 year Strategic Plan. These include targeting key economic drivers such as tourism, waterfront development, and event planning.”
Sheehan says the EDO will also focus on attracting events, commercial development and newcomers to the area.
