The Municipality of Machin is now eligible for provincial disaster recovery assistance funding as a result of flooding in 2019.
Significant rainfall in July and September, combined with high water levels in Vermilion Bay, resulted in two separate floods.
The municipality can now apply for funding of up to $95,000 for the July event and $78,000 for the September flood.
The money will help pay for the costs of the emergency response and debris clean up as well as road and culvert repairs that were damaged by both floods.
Kenora-Rainy River MPP Greg Rickford says, “Ontario is ensuring that the people of Machin and the municipality has the support it needs to make necessary repairs to critical local infrastructure.”
Mayor Gord Griffiths adds, “This program (The Municipal Disaster Recovery Assistance program) is extremely helpful for small municipalities that would have a very difficult time finding the necessary funding for these repairs.”
