The City of Dryden is excited with the prospect of a new Community Safety and Well-Being Plan.
Special Projects and Communication Manager Marshalina Reader says this multi-sector collaboration includes participation from over 60 representatives of the health, educational, community/social and protective services disciplines to address risk and vulnerability before harm occurs.
Reader says, “It will enable our partners to best gauge the communities thoughts about safety and to drive actions towards achieving increased opportunities and targeted resources to address and promote safety and well-being.”
She notes a new survey has been launched and they want to hear from as many people possible.
“We must hear from the people who live with these impacts everyday, both negative and positive, and how their living environment has affected and or contributed to their safety and well-being.”
Reader says work on improving safety in our community has been ongoing for years under the guidance of Ann Tkachyk and her team.
“Everyone around that Community Safety and Well-being Table really want to ensure that the residents are informing this plan. Work plans will then be developed and identified in the final draft of the plan.”
This is a provincially mandated plan and a draft strategy is expected before Council in June as it needs to be approved by Canada Day.
Reader notes, “Really an essential strategic plan in that all levels of government really need to hear the concerns of the residents of all these communities on the issues that are of importance to them. Because we all know that is crucial in terms of advocacy for funding requirements.”
She adds it assist council, municipal and community leadership to speak out and advocate on the issues impacting our area.
Reader says the plan builds upon a foundation of good governance and ensure our municipalities are adaptable, forward-thinking, and committed to a bright future for all residents.
She adds this aligns perfectly with Dryden’s Strategic Plan.
“Speaks to Dryden being recognized as a vibrant, safe, healthy and inclusive community with a diverse economy providing exceptional quality of life.”
Dryden is working with Machin and surrounding area in adopting the plan.
