Students, educators and parents are anxiously waiting to hear if there will be a spring break this year.
The traditional school break, originally scheduled March 15 to 19, was bumped to April 12 to 16 over fears that families would travel, or kids would congregate, resulting in a bump in COVID-19 cases.
Doug Ford says the government is not ready to make a decision.
“We will be out here every single day communicating with the people. I can’t give you a direct answer right now two weeks down the road.”
Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. David Williams says they are monitoring the situation.
“Still two or three weeks off. As we’ve noted today things can change pretty quickly on the upswing. We’ve seen some places come back down again as we’ve put down some limitations there. So we’re going to be really looking at it closely to make some assessments.”
Dr. Williams notes most outbreaks in schools have been limited to one of two cases when COVID is identified.
Education Minister Stephen Lecce says, “We’re continuing to work with the chief medical officer of health to make sure that the April break is safe, that students and their parents continue to follow the rules, as overwhelmingly they have.”
There are multiple reports that an announcement is expected before the end of the week.
