The Northwestern Health Unit has administered 6,782 Moderna COVID-19 vaccines in the region. (As of Wednesday March 24)
“At this time no area pharmacies are currently offering COVID-19 vaccines. Certain populations can now book appointments for COVID-19 vaccines and we still have spots available in clinics,” said Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kit Young Hoon.
Young Hoon goes on to say there were some openings for the March clinics, most likely due to early technical issues with the Provincial Booking system.
The Health Unit is now booking into April.
Those 75 plus can use the online provincial booking system or phone 1-833-943-3900.
Other priority groups must fill out a survey on the health unit’s website first to receive an email invitation to book within a few days.
“We are also very concerned about people not being able to book because the email invitation to book is going to their spam or junk mail folder. Really important for people to check their spam and junk mail and to check the settings of their email system,” explained Young Hoon.
Eligible groups that can register for their vaccine include:
- those 75 years of age and older
- health care workers including staff who work in congregate living settings
- adult home care recipients
- faith leaders who provide end of life care, care of the deceased, funerals, home visits to unwell persons or pastoral care in hospitals, LTCH, etc.
- Indigenous and Metis adults.
If you’re still having trouble booking your appointments, the Northwestern Health Unit’s COVID-19 hotline is 1-866-468-2240, available Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm.
