The Federal Conservatives feel the Liberal government has no clear plan to lift long-term drinking water advisories on reserves.
Eric Melillo is the MP for the Kenora Riding and stresses success isn’t measured by funding announcements and election promises, it’s measured by outcomes.
“The government has made some strides, there’s no doubt about that but they’re used COVID-19 as an excuse they’ve been pushing back timelines,” says Melillo.
“I think they’ve shown fixing the issue isn’t really a priority for them considering they spend billions of dollars on so many other programs.”
Melillo says in 2015, the government promised to end all long-term boil-water notices but more than five years later there are still a number of first nations without potable drinking water.
He stresses no Canadian should be without clean drinking water and all solutions must be on the table to fix the water crisis.
