Red-Control COVID-19 restrictions are now in effect for the Northwestern Health Unit region.
This follows the province’s announcement on Friday of our move from Yellow to Red.
Two more U.K variants were confirmed in the region last week along with four straight days of double-digit case numbers.
10 of the 20 positive COVID-19 test results over the weekend were confirmed in the Sioux Lookout region, 2 in the Dryden/Red Lake region and 8 in Kenora region.
Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kit Young Hoon is urging everyone to take the prevention measures seriously.
“Get tested even if you have only one symptom and you and anyone you live with should stay home until the test results are known.”
“Do not travel unless it is essential, especially if is in areas of higher risk including Thunder Bay,” explains Dr. Young Hoon. “This is our opportunity to stop the spread of the virus. Do not gather with anyone that you do not live with. Stay two meters from others not in your household at all times, even outdoors.”
Some of the new restrictions include indoor gathering limits of five and a limit of ten people inside at restaurants.
Grocery stores and pharmacies will be limited to 75 percent capacity, while most retail will be restricted to 50 percent.
Full list of restrictions can be read here.
