The first COVID-19 variant has been reported in the Thunder Bay District.
The Health Unit is still confirming the result, and determining which variant of the virus this person has. Officials note the B.1.1.7 variant, also known as the UK variant, is the most common variant detected in Ontario.
They add this underlines the importance of taking precautions like staying home as much as possible.
On March 2nd, Medical Officer of Health Dr. Janet DeMille indicated one case in the district had tested positive on an initial variant screening.
This comes as the Northwestern Health Unit confirms two cases of the B.1.1.7 variant.
