COVID-19 vaccine clinics will officially start the week of March 22nd across the Northwestern Health Unit catchment area.
“We’re happy to announce that along with local partners we will begin offering regularly scheduled COVID-19 vaccine clinics across the region the week of March 22,” said Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kit Young Hoon in a media update. “The first clinics will be open to Health Care workers and adults 80 years and older.”
Young Hoon adds clinics will be by appointment only and for designated priority groups outlined in the Province’s three phase vaccine roll out plan.
“Members of the public will use the new provincial booking system that is set to open March 15, to schedule appointments at the Northwestern health Unit led vaccine clinics. People over the age of 80 can self register directly with the booking system once it’s open.”
More information will be provided about the provincial booking system as it becomes available.
The health unit assures there will also be evening and weekend appointment times available, with health care partners helping to staff the clinics.
“By the first week of April there will be a rotating schedule of vaccine clinics in 12 communities in the Northwestern Health Unit’s service area at least every two weeks and in Kenora every week,” explained Dr. Kit Young Hoon.
As of Monday, 952 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered across the region.
