Confederation College is now accepting applications for a new accelerated training program for personal support workers.
The course will allow students to complete the program in just six months with no tuition fee.
The school will be offering the course starting on May 10 and June 14 at all nine of its campuses in northwestern Ontario.
After three months of coursework, and experiential learning in a clinical setting, students will complete the final three months in paid onsite training in a long-term care home or in a home and community care environment.
Graduates will be ready to work in long-term care and other health care settings by the fall of this year.
Shane Strickland is the Dean of School of Health, Negahneewin and Community Services at Confederation College and says, “This new Personal Support Worker Accelerated program adds an important pathway for students to gain the skills and experience they need to successfully pursue this critical career.”
Strickland adds, “There is considerable demand for trained PSWs in the northwestern Ontario region and beyond. This opportunity not only creates additional PSW seats for prospective students, it also reduces barriers to the program by offering the financial support components.”
The Ford government is spending $115-million to roll out the program at all 24 colleges in Ontario.
