Some members of Eagle Lake First Nation now have added protection against COVID-19.
Health Care workers and a few Elders over 80 years old have received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Officials with the First Nation say 22 doses were administered on Monday.
Staff, essential caregivers and any residents in First Nation Elder Care Homes and Indigenous adults in northern remote and higher risk communities (on-reserve and urban) are two priority groups included in Phase 1 of Ontario’s vaccination plan.
The next priority groups within Phase 1 are adults 80 years and older, staff, residents and caregivers in retirement homes and other congregate care settings for seniors (assisted living) and Indigenous adults.
The Northwestern Health Unit is aiming to start mass vaccination clinics for those 80 years and older in April.
