The province is bolstering its apprenticeship programs.
It’s setting up a new $47-million program to hire more apprentices, improve training and help them complete their training toward certification.
Labour, Training and Skills Development Minister Monte McNaughton says the Achievement Incentive Program is geared toward employers.
“Employers will receive bonuses at key milestones in their apprentices’ journeys, like completing their in-class training levels or certificates of qualification,” he explains.
Colleges, unions and apprentice trainers will also have access to $24-million to upgrade equipment and facilities for apprentices to learn at.
McNaughton calls a job in the skilled trades “life changing.”
Recent data suggests the need to replace retiring workers is greater for the skilled trades than any other occupation.
