Wabaseemoong First Nation is sending their thanks and appreciation to the Northwestern Ontario business community for their on going support.
The First Nation community has been in lockdown since February 10th due to a COVID-19 outbreak.
Over the last week a number of individuals, local and regional businesses banded together to put together 352 kits for Wabaseemoong youth including games, snacks, gift cards for movies and online games and water bottles.
20 thousand dollars has also been raised for the community in less than a week and continues to grow.
“We want to say Miigwetch, to these businesses that stepped up, and are bringing positivity to the community, and setting an example,” says Chief Waylon Scott.
The delivery of the packages was made over the weekend where the donations will be distributed between youth and community members.
The initiative was started by two Kenora business owners, Pam Viinikka from The Cornerstone and Alexis Pernsky from Sweet, Lake Of The Woods.
Over 60 local and regional businesses and 15 community volunteers made the effort possible including the Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority, Dingwall Ford, Kano Reid, Wilson’s Business Solutions, Gillions Insurance and many more.
