After the regional case count went down on Wednesday, the Northwestern Health Unit says it’s back up on Thursday.
The regional health authority is reporting 12 new cases; six in the Dryden/Red Lake area, four in the Kenora region and two in the Sioux Lookout area.
At the same time, the Keewatin Patricia District School Board has confirmed one student at the Golden Learning Centre in Red Lake has tested positive for the virus.
One classroom was closed Wednesday and the Board tells us they have not been notified of any additional cases.
As is the procedure, they tell us that follow-up with the close contacts of the known cases is underway. They add that they will contact you directly if you are a close contact.
According to the NWHU website, there are currently 48 active cases with a total of 498 confirmed since the start of the pandemic.
None of the active cases are in the District of Rainy River, which includes Fort Frances.
Despite the rise in cases Thursday, there is some good news from the health region as the number of resolved cases has increased from 448 to 450.
