Two unidentified Canadians have been fined a total of $17,000 for presenting false negative COVID-19 tests after returning from Mexico.
Transport Canada says the individuals boarded a flight to Montreal in January, knowing they had the virus just days before their journey.
One person was fined $10,000 and the other was fined $7,000, under a federal order requiring all air travellers to present a negative test before boarding a flight heading to Canada.
They are believed to be the first to be fined under the new travel restrictions imposed on air travellers by the Trudeau government.
