The extreme cold is still blanketing the Northwest, with temperatures feeling near -40 this morning.
Much of the region remains under an extreme cold warning.
Environment Canada Meteorologist Kelly Hobelman notes that a break in the cold snap is coming after Tuesday.
“Temperatures will begin to moderate and go back towards seasonal normals towards the end of the week. Normals are around a high of -5 and lows around -16,” she explains.
She notes the cold weather that some parts of the region have had since the first weekend of the month is because of an area of high pressure.
“That is allowing extremely clear conditions and cold temperatures to remain over the area,” she notes.
