NDP Leader Andrea Horwath is calling for the full lockdown of the province to continue.
It comes as Ontario’s public health officials warn of a third wave of the virus that could lead to as many as 1,800 of the variant cases a day by March.
“I think that we need to have a full lockdown in the province. I mean I know that there are zones or areas of the province that are at this point in pretty good shape but we all know how quickly something can happen.”
The stay-at-home order in northwestern Ontario is scheduled to end February 16.
The provincial NDP is also critical of the move of March Break to April.
Education Critic Marit Stiles says this is something that families, children, teachers and education workers didn’t want to see.
“And it’s pretty rich for the Minister of Education to say that he’s consulted with workers and boards when we know that school boards, staff, unions, parents had all but begged him to keep the March Break.”
Stiles also accuses the Premier of not listening to the experts who see next month’s break necessary.
Andrea Horwath says, “Kids, families, teachers, education workers have all been plugged in to screens for some time now. They need a break. They need a break from the screens.”
Horwath feels the Ford government should be doing more to make schools safe instead of kicking the can down the road.
