Part of the region is getting hit by cold Arctic air over the next few days.
Environment Canada meteorologist Victoria Nurse explains an extreme cold warning is out for areas like Dryden, Sioux Lookout, Kenora, Red Lake and Fort Frances over the next few days.
“In these areas we’re expecting temperatures in the minus thirties, and therefore combined with a bit of wind, you will see wind chill values between minus 40 and minus 45,” she says.
The extreme cold is expected to ease up around Tuesday.
Nurse says that Arctic air might make its way to the Thunder Bay area later in the week.
Environment Canada says frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill.
Officials add that if it’s too cold for you to stay outside, it’s too cold for your pet to stay outside.
