The Keewatin-Patricia District School Board is out with a list of recommendations as the province looks at tweaking its 2021-2022 Funding Guide.
The Board was asked to answer a number of questions and provide feedback on what’s needed to recover from COVID-19.
The local summary states more flexibility is needed with funds and boards should be able to use reserves in order to be able to respond to needs.
There is also a call for more funding for Summer programs and additional tutoring both outside and inside the school.
A main ask for the KPDSB is more supports for on the ground Mental Health resources and personnel in schools.
The local summary goes on to say more money is needed for School Councils, Indigenous Education Committees and Special Education Committees to do their work and engage parents.
It adds supports are needed for the transition from virtual back to in-class learning.
The Board says funding must be maintained for student success programs, First Nations education, literacy, numeracy and other learning programs.
Officials say the province must be prepared for higher than usual numbers of fifth year students returning due to the pandemic.
