Firefly is now accepting applications for the Northern Ontario School of Medicine Summer Studentship program.
For 8 weeks, healthcare students are given the opportunity to gain relevant work experience and valuable skills that relates to their area of study.
Firefly’s Jackie Hummelbrunner, tells us students get to work with professionals in their field and complete different projects.
“Our students last summer created an online equipment library that professionals were able to sign out equipment to be able to access or to work with the children that they work with in their practice. This allowed the students to not only learn about the equipment but to discuss equipment and uses with the professionals they’re working with. It also gave them a finished product that gave them skills they wouldn’t have otherwise developed in their student program.”
Firefly will host students at their Dryden, Kenora and Sioux Lookout sites.
Hummelbrunner explains who should apply by the deadline, February 15th.
“We are targeting Dieticians, Kinesiologists, Medical Students, Midwife, Nurse, Pharmacist, Respiratory Therapist, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, or Speech-Language Pathology students to please apply.”
Hummelbrunner adds the program caters to students from Northern Ontario, in hopes of recruitment for future job opportunities.
To apply go to the NOSM website and search for Firefly as the host site.
