The Northwestern Health Unit says it will continue to monitor schools to make sure there’s no outbreak of COVID-19.
Two classes at Dryden High School are closed due to the risk of exposure but schools in the Fort Frances area returned to in-person learning Monday.
Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kit Young Hoon says right now the case count is lower than it was when the schools were closed.
She says the situation in the Rainy River district and Fort Frances area has generally improved with numbers going down and that’s why they aren’t going with virtual learning.
Dr. Young Hoon notes if case counts do climb again, they can consider closing schools to in-person learning.
“Case numbers will be important but also the type of cases that we are seeing, the number of contacts they have, potential exposures that we are following up on. We’ll also be considering just how many household are affected.”
She says if the cases are within one household, it’s less risky than if several households or individuals get COVID-19 and there is community spread.
There were two new cases and three probable cases of COVID-19 Monday, all in the Dryden/Red Lake region.
