The COVID-19 lockdown hasn’t stopped the Alzheimer Society of Kenora/Rainy River from continuing its services.
Officials say they are offering various activities and learning opportunities to help families and friends continue to stay connected and enhance their knowledge of dementia.
Activities kits have also been distributed to clients.
Three virtual events are planned for this coming week:
Event: Brain Health and You
Date: Tuesday, January 26
Time: 6:00pm
Details: The Heads Up for Healthier Brains program illustrates how certain lifestyle choices can help to reduce many of the risk factors for Alzheimer disease and other dementia. Making healthy lifestyle choices, being socially active, protecting your head and keeping the brain challenged are ways to keep the brain healthy.
Event: Warning Signs of Alzheimer Disease
Date: Thursday, January 28
Time: 2:00pm
Details: Whether you are concerned for yourself or someone you care about, it is important to know the warning signs so you can ensure an early diagnosis.
Event: Information Session for the General Public
Date: Friday, January 28
Time: 2:00pm
Details: Join the Alzheimer Society Kenora/Rainy River Districts for a virtual presentation about the Finding Your Way Program. We will discuss knowing the risks which are associated with living with dementia, reducing those risks, and having a plan in case there is an incident. We also have Identification Kits available upon request.

While in-person fundraising events have been scrapped, the Society notes they always accept donations.
All money raised goes toward programs and services in individual communities.
These programs improve quality of life for people with dementia and their families while also supporting awareness and education.
