The provincial government is being asked to ramp up the urgency of COVID-19 vaccinations.
NDP leader Andrea Horwath says people are dying in long-term care homes so something has to be done and fast.
“By the end of January there will be hundreds of thousands of vaccines available and there’s no evidence the government has really any plan to get those vaccines out in a more speedy manner.”
Horwath says by now we should have seen a schedule for when every long-term care resident will be offered their shot.
Horwath calls the current vaccine roll-out sluggish, anaemic and dangerously slow.
“The virus is spreading like wildfire. People in long-term care are not protected. They are being told if you are in the hot spot you might get a vaccine by the 21st of this month. But there really shouldn’t be any long-term care home that’s not a priority right now.”
She adds the government has always been chasing this virus and have never got ahead of it.
