Ontario’s Education Minister is striking back at an NDP claim that not enough has been done to safely reopen schools.
Stephen Lecce says they will be rolling out an in-school asymptomatic testing program.
“All schools and all public health units will be eligible, have the capacity and the testing kits required to do that type of surveillance testing. Meaning we’re going well beyond the four highest risk regions where it exists today. We’re going to provincialize that access point which we think will help.”
Lecce notes the government will spend an additional $380-million dollars on ventilation improvements, additional personal protection equipment, the hiring of more custodians and additional staff.
Lecce says enhanced screening measures will also further improve the safety of schools as we get through this second wave.
