Will President Donald Trump remain in office until President-Elect Joe Biden is sworn in on January 20th?
United States House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is putting Vice President Mike Pence on notice to invoke the 25th amendment, otherwise the House will proceed with impeachment.
University of Minnesota Political Science Professor Andrew Karch feels Speaker Pelosi could move quickly on impeachment.
“The impeachment resolution would move directly to the House floor, there probably would be a lengthy debate in the house and then a vote would be taken,” says Karch. “[The 25th amendment process] seems more immediate rather than this multi-step process involving two legislative chambers that aren’t even in session.”
The House and the Senate are on recess after certifying the Electoral College result last Wednesday.
Should Donald Trump be removed from office, Mike Pence would become the 46th President of the United States.
On January 20th Joe Biden will become the 47th man to hold the title of Commander In Chief.
