If you haven’t joined the local Facebook group – Revitalize Red Lake, I highly recommend checking it out! As someone who hasn’t had the pleasure of visiting the Red Lake area yet (working on changing that – post COVID), it’s been a great way to get a pulse on what’s happening.
Over the weekend, a local camp owner by the name of Roy Green came across an interesting piece of Red Lake history:
Vinyl has really made a comeback in recent years, and that’s what makes this such a cool find!
According to the Red Lake District Museum – ‘In the mid-1960s, Daniel Fréval, a teacher from France, came to Red Lake to teach French at the Red Lake District High School. Fréval fell in love with the area and made many friends throughout the community. During his free time he researched, produced and narrated a 45 rpm documentary record entitled A Souvenir-Record of the Red Lake District. The project involved capturing live recordings of the many sounds of Red Lake, from moose calls to drilling underground. Local residents purchased the record and played it on their record players.’
