What are the sayings?? “Hair today….gone tomorrow” and “Only a face a mother could love.”
Well it’s kind of a combination of both for me.
Since the start of the pandemic back in March of last year I started shaving my own head.
Before that I used to go to a salon to get it done. Yes that’s right I went to a salon to get maybe at the most an inch to an inch and a half of hair shaved off from an ever growing island of skull skin. I think I went mostly for the conversation and some laughs. I really miss that. I also miss parting and combing my hair….and reaching back even further in time – the salons colouring and perming my hair. Who am I kidding….I don’t miss the combing and styling and I guess if I really wanted to I could colour my skull!! That would be fun. “Honey where’s the hair dye?!!”
It’s been years since the longer plentiful folicles ‘split’ the scene and it’s been almost a year since I finally started sculpting my own skull and it’s got pretty easy to do. The end result also feels great! Does it look great? Well that is subject to opinion but my Mom says yes. Really all that matters is that you feel good about yourself without hair or with it.
My hair may be ‘perm’anently gone but I still stay in touch with those who helped shape the dome over the years….and when this virus thing is finally over maybe me and those salon helpers of mine from years gone by will get together and reminisce. They can ‘comb-over’ and we can share some ‘hairdemic’ gossip. In the meantime I encourage you to support your local salons however you can!
And that’s my ‘brush’ with history. Or perhaps I should really be saying ‘my brush is history’ but our local hair salons with your help are not.
