Well, this is certainly something you don’t see everyday! When was the last time you saw a Mink? I’ve only managed to catch a glimpse once or twice in my lifetime…
But when was the last time you saw a Mink in an ICE SHACK?
For Penny and Greg Mercer, it’s become a regular occurrence while fishing on Gullrock Lake in Red Lake, Ontario. So much so, that he has a name…
… Sneaky Pete! As it turns out, he’s a very sneaky little guy who likes to snack on the ‘catch of the day’ and take long naps under the wood-stove!
Look at the sly little guy! Pulls out the puppy dog eyes for a treat, the little bugger! I’m not a expert on Minks by any means – so here are some fun facts about this friendly, but elusive mammal:
According to Live Science: Minks are small mammals with long, thin bodies, short legs, pointed snouts and claws. These soft creatures are related to ermines, ferrets and weasels and look much like their relatives.
They are crepuscular, which means they are most active during the dawn and dusk hours, spending their time marking their territory and looking for prey. When they find a potential meal, they bite down on the creature’s neck to kill it.
Muskrats, chipmunks, mice, rabbits, fish, snakes, frogs and water fowl are all part of the diet.
Hopefully this won’t be the last time we hear of Sneaky Pete! Many thanks to Penny & Greg Mercer for sharing this cool experience with us!
