There’s no doubt 2020 was full of challenges but the Mayor of Ear Falls is looking at the positives.
Kevin Kahoot says he was extremely proud to see his community come together during the pandemic.
Kahoot says businesses rallied to service the community and keep the local economy going.
He also credits doctors, nurses, health staff and municipal staff for their work to ensure Ear Falls residents received the proper information and care in a safe and timely manner.
Kahoot reflects back on one major development in Ear Falls.
“The opening of our Splash Pad that came in September. A little later than normal due to obvious reasons. But it did get open so we will have it ready to roll for the spring of 2021.”
The project cost $258,000 with help from a nearly $138,000 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
Kahoot notes operating during the COVID-19 pandemic was no doubt a learning experience.
“It really changed the way the Municipality did business. Did everything on long distance. Things were kind of delayed. It was just a tough, tough go early in the year but as the summer and fall rolled on you got a little more comfortable.”
Kahoot says the Township also saw a drop in American visitors due to the closure of the border.
