The provincial government is out with $438,500 in funding to help protect local residents from COVID-19.
The Kenora District Services Board is using the money to support its Isolation Centres in each community.
Chief Administrative Officer Henry Wall says the facilities provide shelter for those who need to self-isolate or quarantine.
“The Isolation Centres, in particular in Kenora and Red Lake, have been instrumental. Even in terms of supporting our workforces. With respect to Red Lake, a little while ago we did have an outbreak at a work site and the Isolation Centre was used to support the employer and the community.”
Wall says as a result the Isolation Centre helped stop the spread of the virus.
The money can also be used to secure hotel rooms to support individuals that need to self-isolate or quarantine.
Wall adds the cash will also support vulnerable residents and seniors with housing and food.
He notes many people and families are struggling financially right now and it’s a big issue, especially in the Dryden area.
In total, the KDSB has received $4.061,406 under the Social Service Relief Fund.
