Investigators in Nashville, Tennessee are looking into a possible person of interest in Christmas morning’s RV explosion.
Federal agents were seen searching a home around 18 kilometres away from Nashville on Saturday, and CBS News reports investigators have identified a 63-year-old man who lived at that address.
Officials with the FBI and Metro Nashville Police declined to identify any persons of interest.
“There are a number of individuals that we’re looking at,” Douglas Korneski, the special agent heading the FBI’s Memphis Field Office said at a news conference Saturday. “So, at this point, we’re not prepared to identify any single individual.”
Metro Nashville PD Chief John Drake said officers responded to reports of gunfire on Friday. When they arrived, the RV blared a prerecorded message warning it was going to explode, and officers evacuated the area immediately.
Three people were hurt in the blast in the city’s downtown, and investigators are working to identify what they believe could be human remains.
Mayor John Cooper declared a state of civil emergency after the explosion. It damaged an AT&T building, causing widespread power and service outages across the state.
