The province is taking action to protect our forests in northwestern Ontario.
The government is spending $40 million on a multi-year pest management program.
The money will help support measures to control the jack pine and spruce budworm population.
The government says after extensive public and Indigenous consultation, they will be targeting infestations which have caused damage to area forests.
The action plan will begin in spring 2021.
Officials stress if left unaddressed, the infestations could result in significant losses to the future wood supply for the forest industry and increase the fire hazard risk.
