The Dryden Power Toboggan Club is anticipating a busy winter season.
Vice President Kevin Glenister says some of the work to clean up the trails is underway.
“Several volunteers have been out with power saws and brush saws, and since September we’ve accumulated over 7 hundred hours with the members cutting, brushing and putting up new signs to get the trails ready for the upcoming season.”
The club hopes to start grooming trails more effectively, as soon as there’s enough snow and the ice on Wabigoon Lake thickens.
Glenister talks about how you can support the club and hit the trails this winter.
“You can go to the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Club’s website, that’s where you can buy a trail pass if you haven’t already. The other way is you can get involved with our local Facebook page, which will update you on when the groomers have been out and when trails are open for the season.”
Glenister explains when you buy a trail pass from the provincial federation, it supports and funds our local club to purchase equipment in order to maintain our local trails.
With outside one of the best places to be this year and many people staying close to home, Glenister says new and old faces are purchasing trail passes.
“We can do social distancing on snowmobiles this year and that’s why we expect it’s going to be a great year with lots of people and lots of members out using the trails and exploring the beauty of Northwestern Ontario.”
There’s also an app you can download by the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs, to check the status of trails in the area.
