The NDP wants the Ontario Legislature to be called back.
The current session ended Tuesday, two days before schedule.
Leader Andrea Horwath questions the government’s decision to end the session early in the midst of a pandemic.
“There’s important work we can and must do right now. To invest that $12 billion in COVID-19 funding that Doug Ford has been keeping from the people of Ontario. We should be working to stop the spread of the virus. Helping people and businesses stay afloat.”
Horwath says it’s inappropriate for the premier to call an end to the current sitting and wait for a vaccine.
Horwath adds “We’re the opposition and it’s our job to hold the government to account and to push to keep at it and to provide one of the most important venues of the opposition’s ability to do that, which is Question Period.”
The next session of the Ontario Legislature is scheduled to begin on February 16.
