The Northwestern Health Unit says COVID-19 cases aren’t spiking anymore, like they were two weeks ago in our region.
With one active case in the Sioux Lookout region and one in the Dryden/Red Lake area, the Kenora area is still the most affected with eight active cases right now.
Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kit Young Hoon talks about what they’re seeing.
“So we we’re seeing about four to five cases a day at one point and now we’re seeing about one to three cases a day, and that’s been fairly steady. At this time, our numbers have not been increasing to suggest that we’ll be moving to the orange level. We have seen that there’s an increase in the Kenora area, appeared to be increasing, but that was primarily due to positive results coming back from close contacts.”
However, Young Hoon adds there are a small portion of cases being followed up with, without a known exposure to the virus.
Young Hoon explains she doesn’t foresee our region moving into the Orange level of Ontario’s COVID-19 framework, just yet.
“We see the numbers are steady, well in the yellow level and not necessarily moving into the orange level. The data does not indicate that we’re moving towards the orange level, at least not quickly.”
The health unit is also reporting the current positivity testing rate for COVID-19 at 0.29 percent, down from 0.41 percent just last week.
Young Hoon adds this shows the public has been making an effort to follow public health measures and contact tracing is working.
